The spend to black women-owned businesses, de ned as having at least 30% black women ownership, was ZAR2.0bn (FY22: ZAR2.8bn). We support six regional TV stations in South Africa through our enterprise development. We provide the latest broadcast equipment, training in production and business education and management, as well as funding to produce local stories. MultiChoice SA’s preferential procurement spend was 100% of this spend was directed to black-owned businesses ZAR12.0bn Enterprise development and job creation initiatives MultiChoice Enterprise Development Trust The MultiChoice Enterprise Development Trust aims to support and grow start-ups and small enterprises. The Trust manages the Innovation Fund, which aims to fast-track entrepreneurs to leadership in the technology, lm and content production industries. It provides start-up entrepreneurs and established SMEs with nancial support, mentorship and business development and management skills to enable them to bring their business ideas to life and create much-needed employment opportunities. Since inception in 2012, the fund has disbursed ZAR379m in loans, grants, and business development support to assist bene ciaries to acquire skills and assets. During FY23, the fund invested a further ZAR52m which resulted in 181 new jobs created. The total number of jobs created to date is 1 381. The Trust launched the MultiChoice Accelerator in 2021. The programme aims to support small businesses to secure funding from global investors to scale their businesses. In 2022, 20 entrepreneurs from South Africa participated in the programme and six nalists secured more than USD12 million in investment from the United Arab Emirates. The MultiChoice Accelerator programme has been expanded to include Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Ethiopia, Zambia, Angola, Ivory Coast and Senegal. In February 2023, 11 start-ups were selected to pitch their ideas to global investors. Preferential procurement Our preferential procurement programme supports small, medium and micro-enterprises that play a critical role in growing the economy and creating jobs. MultiChoice SA’s preferential procurement spend was ZAR12.0bn in FY23 (FY22: ZAR13.4bn). 100% of this spend was directed to black-owned businesses (FY22: 88%). Youth Employment Services MultiChoice partnered with the Youth Employment Services (YES) in 2020. The YES initiative is a business-led collaboration with government to create work opportunities for unemployed black South Africans between the ages of 18 and 35. The partnership with MultiChoice is aimed at creating employment opportunities in all industries including ICT, engineering and satellite communication. Since the start of our partnership, we invested ZAR107m in learnerships, internships and apprenticeships across all nine South African provinces. This investment has helped create 1 190 job opportunities. Key focus areas going forward Our transformation initiatives play an important role in contributing to our country’s socio-economic development by developing talent pipelines in TV, lm, and sport, supporting small businesses, creating jobs and sustaining relationships with our stakeholders, including authorities, partners and customers.
